When God's Power Meets Faith
BS on Mark 11:12-14; 20-24
I tried looking at this story by taking a quick glance on the "unfair" cursing of the fig then proceed swiftly on the meeting of Jesus' divine power and our faith. Actually, this story is not to show how unfair God is. It is to demonstrate what God can do through his divine will. And if this power will he accessed with faith, it can do much more.
1. God's power can dry up an unfruitful tree and more, it can move mountains. Believe in what God can do. That is what faith is all about.
2. Prayer and faith can produce incredible results, since they unleash God's potential. But remember, God moves according to His own way. Faith is not a way of putting God in our control. Faith is trusting God, not commanding God.
Verse 24 says, "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
Prayer and faith really work. However, what a pity for those who who do not pray. They will receive nothing from their wishes.
3. Prayer without forgiveness is much like a fig tree full of leaves but without the fruit. Faith without works of obedience is only a display of uselesness. Prayer without forgiveness is disgusting before God.
Verse 25 says,
"And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
All of us are sinners in need of God's forgiveness. To be forgiven however, we also have to forgive. Unless we forgive we will not be forgiven.
Unforgiveness will bring us to God's wrath, like the tree full of leaves but without the fruit.
So, have faith, pray and do not forget to forgive. Or else...you will just end up missing the power of God in you.
